Assessment & Action

We believe that change begins with an understanding of where you’re starting from. Assessment & Action provides an opportunity for rigorous current state analysis, pain-point identification, and strategic planning of the next steps forward.

Our team has years of experience creating and employing Assessment and Action tools to lead change management in the healthcare industry.

The Racial Health Equity Progress Report

In partnership with UChicago Medicine and RUSH Medical Center, and funded by the Commonwealth Fund, our team developed the Racial Health Equity Progress Report and Hub. This project was launched in 2020 when 40 healthcare providers published a transformative statement declaring racism a public health crisis in the aftermath of the murder of George Floyd.

The Assessment

The Racial Health Equity Progress Report serves as a benchmarking assessment for hospitals across the nation to assess their own racial equity standards in comparison to their peers, and the Hub serves as a digital platform to host the Progress Report in addition to toolkits and programming structured around the assessment. It is segmented into 4 domains: Our People, Our Patients, Our Organization, and Our Community, and is designed to be completed collaboratively within an organization.

The Action

After submission, organizations are sent their data analytics to identify their greatest areas of opportunity, and they are supplied with tools and resources to translate that data into action. Since its genesis, we have engaged over 400 organizations in the Racial Health Equity Progress Report and Hub.

Our focus post assessment is always, how do we help teams identify the data driven gaps and mitigate them with action in a peer based setting. Over the course of this work we have run more than 5 regional and national learning collaboratives to power change in both in-person and virtual formats.

In 2024, the progress report was published in the New England Journal of Medicine Catalyst. Read more about it and take a look at our hub below!

The Organizational Birth Equity Assessment (OBEA)

The Organizational Birth Equity Assessment (OBEA), developed in partnership with the Hospital Association of Southern California and Communities Lifting Communities, is a current state analysis tool for birthing hospitals nationwide to assess their own strengths and weaknesses before ideating programming around birth equity improvement.

The Assessment

The OBEA is a 60-question online assessment that is broken down into 4 domains (Data, Workforce, Clinical, and Structural). Its affiliated programming suite details a nine month virtual program (the OBEA Academy) that uses a four-step approach to change management: Skill Development, Reflection, Prototyping, and Leading Practices.

The Action

The OBEA Academy is tailored to organizations across the country that have completed the OBEA, identified their gaps, and are in need of guidance on how to move to action. In addition, the programming suite also details an in-person Community Research and Advocacy program aimed toward collecting, analyzing, and reporting community-based research on the current state of birth equity and maternal health within the state. We are currently in the process of vetting funders to support the launch of the OBEA and an affiliated programming hub.

The Objective

This is the objective section. Here, we clearly state why we were hired, what the goals are, what the metrics for success are, and what the macro impact of the project is. Questions to remember: Why is this work important to this company? What do they have to gain? Lose? What have they lost already by not tackling this issue?
GET SPECIFIC. Do not attempt to vaguely market toward other businesses.
